In Plain Sight explores the small, often overlooked, and uniquely beautiful moments found close to home. Made in the Seattle neighborhood streets and gardens I often frequently on walks near home, this series draws attention to delicate details and fleeting phenomena that hide in familiar places: the elegant curl of a tulip just beginning to bloom, a blooming garlic emerging from its papery husk, or droplets of dew clinging to a leaf after the rain. The project was inspired by a blooming garlic I discovered in a traffic circle near my home. Finding something so lovely and unexpected in such a place I regularly pass made me pause and look more closely at the world around me. It brought me back to my childhood in the backwoods of Canada, where I spent entire days exploring, never certain what I would find, but always excited by discovery. In Plain Sight has reignited that spirit of discovery in my life. It often feels like a treasure hunt, with nature gently offering subtle, ephemeral gifts that are easy to miss. This work asks me to slow down, shift my gaze, and find beauty in places we often overlook. These quiet moments fill me with appreciation and remind me that wonder does not have to dazzle or hide—it often waits in plain sight.
